It’s very important to treat a cavity as soon as possible, especially because a cavity can worsen and infect the inner surfaces of the tooth and even the surrounding teeth! The sooner you treat a cavity, the better. To help you know if you have a cavity to treat, our dentist, Dr. Phillip C Hall, is happy to tell you all about the signs to watch out for. Signs for a cavity include:

-A toothache (Pain in the tooth is a common symptom of a cavity)

-Sensitivity to pressure (Pain when biting down can indicate a cavity)

-Pits on the surface of the teeth (If there is a hole in the tooth, it is a cavity. Some pits are only visible on a dental X-ray)

-Pus (If pus is visible around the tooth, it’s a serious sign of a cavity and you should seek treatment right away)

Unfortunately, there are many causes of cavities, like plaque buildup, poor oral hygiene, consuming high amounts of sugary or high-carbohydrate foods and drinks, dry mouth and exposing your teeth to bacteria and acid. If you think you might have a cavity, please schedule an appointment immediately. You don’t want it to get worse.
